Bridgespan Health Insurance Coverage for Rehab

Stethoscope on Bridgespan health insurance form

Published: January 3, 2024

Bridgespan Health provides coverage for substance abuse treatment for its policyholders, like many other health insurance companies.

BridgeSpan Health is part of the Regence Network, now known as Cambia, which also holds BlueCross BlueShield insurance.

To find out what services are covered by BridgeSpan Health plans, or to find addiction treatment centers that accept BridgeSpan Health, keep reading below.

Does BridgeSpan Health Insurance Cover Drug Rehab?

Answer: Yes, BridgeSpan insurance plans do cover alcohol and drug rehab programs.

Mental health treatment coverage is required by the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (MHPAEA). Health insurance providers must offer the same amount of coverage for it that other medical treatments would be given.

And substance use disorder is considered a mental health disorder.

The Affordable Care Act, a law created to make insurance more affordable to people who may not otherwise be able to afford or access it, amended the MHPAEA. This amendment made mental health and addiction treatment services more accessible in the United States.

While BridgeSpan Health is required to provide coverage for addiction treatment, the amount of coverage you will receive depends on the type of coverage your insurance plan provides.

What Types of Addiction Treatment Does BridgeSpan Health Insurance Cover?

Answer: BridgeSpan Health Company covers a wide range of evidence-based alcohol and drug abuse treatments.

These treatments include inpatient and outpatient programs, medication-assisted treatment, support groups, sober living, and more.

If you have any questions about what your insurance policy will and will not cover, you can contact your insurance agent or a representative for support at RehabNet.com.

Medical Detox

BridgeSpan Health will cover at least part of the cost of medical detoxification with most of its plans. Medical detox is an important first step in recovering from substance abuse.

Generally, upon entering an addiction treatment program, patients will undergo a medically supervised detoxification. During this time, doctors and other medical staff will closely monitor vitals such as heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature.
Medication-Assisted Treatment

BridgeSpan Health plans will cover medication-assisted treatment (MAT) at least partially in order to assist in your recovery.

Medication-assisted treatment helps ease the side effects and the intensity of the feelings of withdrawal. It is one of the most successful methods of helping people free themselves from addiction.

Common MAT medications may be at least partially covered by BridgeSpan Health:

  • Vivitrol (naltrexone)
  • Methadone
  • Suboxone (buprenorphine)

If you need to know if your insurance covers a specific MAT medication, you can find more covered medications in your insurance policy. Keep in mind that you may need prior authorization for coverage of MAT medications.

Inpatient Rehab

BridgeSpan Health will cover inpatient treatment for substance abuse, mental and behavioral health treatment, and treatment for dual diagnoses.

Inpatient rehab, also known as residential treatment, is essential for people who are in need of more intense and frequent care. Inpatient treatment is generally the next step after completing a medical detoxification process.

Inpatient treatment comes with both long-term and short-term options, both of which include frequent monitoring by a medical professional and therapy, both in a group and one-on-one.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

BridgeSpan Health covers dual diagnosis treatment as long as the provider is in-network. Most BridgeSpan Health insurance policies do not cover out-of-network providers.

Dual diagnosis treatment is an important part of the rehabilitation process. Many people are battling more than the substance abuse they seek treatment for, which was likely an attempt at self-medicating. Mental health problems can be the root cause of many types of addiction.

Dual diagnosis programs treat both mental health and substance use disorders at the same time. This can significantly increase the likelihood of successfully living a sober life.

Outpatient Treatment Programs

BridgeSpan Health will cover outpatient treatment services as long as the outpatient program provides a diagnosis and treats substance use disorders.

Outpatient programs are ideal for people who have successfully completed an inpatient or medical detox program.

Outpatient services are designed as a step-down method, which means each level comes with a decrease in treatment intensity.

Levels can include partial hospitalization programs (PHP), intensive outpatient programs, and general outpatient programs such as support groups. Payment for outpatient treatment is usually made through a copay each time you go for treatment.

BridgeSpan Health insurance copays for outpatient rehab programs are as follows:

  • BridgeSpan Standard Bronze Plan has a $50 copay for outpatient substance abuse treatment.
  • BridgeSpan Standard Silver Plan has a $40 copay for outpatient substance abuse treatment.
  • BridgeSpan Standard Gold Plan has a $20 copay for outpatient substance abuse treatment.

Counseling & Behavioral Therapy

BridgeSpan Health plans cover counseling and behavioral therapy, including inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. The amount of coverage will vary depending on the plan you are signed up for.

Counseling and behavioral therapy can play important roles in getting to and maintaining sobriety. Recovery can be long-lasting when the underlying issues that led to addiction have been treated.

Some of the most commonly used forms of therapy include:

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Family therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy

Continuing Care

BridgeSpan Health Insurance provides at least partial coverage for many continuing care programs, also known as aftercare programs.

Many people who have successfully completed detoxification, inpatient, and outpatient treatment programs may not feel strong enough to re-enter their old lives. Sober living is a program that supports those graduating from inpatient and outpatient treatment.

These programs help people adapt to their new lives without drugs and alcohol. Contact your insurance agent to find out which sober living programs BridgeSpan Health covers.

Factors That Affect Bridgespan Health Insurance Coverage for Drug Rehab

There are many different factors that can affect your BridgeSpan Health coverage for drug rehab.

Some of these factors include:

  • The type of healthcare services you will need
  • Your specific diagnoses
  • The type of healthcare provider you require
  • Your insurance plan’s deductibles and copays
  • Your plan’s specific insurance benefits
  • The referral requirements needed to see a specialist

Does Bridgespan Health Insurance Cover Out-of-Network Rehab Programs?

Answer: BridgeSpan Health Insurance may reimburse you for expenses you were charged for while using an out-of-network rehab program.

This means you will pay out-of-pocket costs for substance abuse treatment in an out-of-network program then you must submit a reimbursement request.

BridgeSpan will require you to pay the copayment, coinsurance payment, and other expenses on your own. You can submit a request for reimbursement along with a copy of the bill you paid. BridgeSpan follows the Medicare fee schedules for claims.

Out of network means that the healthcare provider has not agreed to BridgeSpan’s smaller payment as full coverage for services. This does not apply to emergency room treatment at hospitals not in your service area, where you will have BridgeSpan Health coverage.

Types of BridgeSpan Health Insurance Healthcare Plans

If you or a family member are looking for health insurance in Idaho, Oregon, Utah, or Washington, BridgeSpan Health has many plans.

  • BridgeSpan Standard Bronze Plan EPO Legacy LHP is an Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO). Your care providers are limited to those within your plan’s network unless it is an emergency.
